SRH beat GL by 8 wickets to qualify for IPL play-offs

Kanpur, May 13 (UNI) Skipper David Warner (69) and Vijay Shankar (63) unbeaten half centuries helped Sunrisers Hyderabad win by eight wickets in the IPL10 against Gujarat Lions becoming the second team after Mumbai Indians to qualify for the play-offs at the Green Park stadium here this evening. From 14 matches this is Hyderabad's eight win and they have collected 17 points on the table placed at 2nd spot thus sealing their berth for the play-offs. Gujarat Lions who are already out of play-offs race from 14 matches this is their 10th loss with 8 points is at 7th spot on the chart table. Chasing a target of 155 runs set by GL, SRH lost Shikhar Dhawan (18) and Henriques (4) when score read at 25. Dhawan's 18 came off in 11 deliveries hitting 4 fours but after that skipper David Warner (67) and Vijay Shankar (63) remained unbeaten and added 133 runs for the third wicket partnership guiding their team towards victory and sealing their berth for the play-offs. Warner's 69 off 52 deliveries hit 9 fours. In the IPL10 this was Warners third half century, and in this edition of IPL10 the skipper completed 600 runs. Shankar also added 63 off 44 balls hitting 9 fours. For GL Praveen Kumar took two wickets.


Earlier, despite openers Dawyne Smith (54) and Ishan Kishan (61) brilliant half centuries the GL could manage to score 154 runs in 19.2 overs while the Sunrisers comprehensively won by eight wickets reaching the target of 155 runs in 18.2 overs scoring 158. After losing their first wicket at score of 111 runs they faltered to 154 after 19.2 overs. Smith and Ishan gave their team a brilliant start in the first power play adding 61 runs without losing any wicket. Both the players continued to score runs at a quick pace adding 100 runs in the 10th over. At one point of time it looked that GL will cross 200 mark, but it lost the wicket of Smith in the 11th over bowled by Rashid Khan. After Rashid's departure wickets kept on falling till the end. Smith smashed 54 off 33 deliveries hitting seven fours and two sixes. Meanwhile, the GL quickly lost 3 wickets in 4 deliveries. Ishan (61) lost his wicket to Mohammad Siraj. He scored 61 off 40 deliveries hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. Captain Suresh Raina (2), Dinesh Karthik (0). The GL in the next five overs could add only 21 runs. Ravindra Jadeja (20) remained unbeaten tried his best to pace the total but were restricted to 154. For Sunrisers Mohammad Siraj's 4/32, Rashid Khan 3/43, Bhuvaneshwar Kumar scalped two wickets and Kaul took one wicket. UNI XC NC SHK 2027
