Sonowal asserts to safeguard interests of indigenous people

Guwahati, Jan 21 (UNI) Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal today asserted that the State government is committed to safeguard 'Jati, Mati and Bheti' of the indigenous people of the state and the government will never take a back step in protecting their interests.
Inaugurating the first ever North East Military School at Bijni, Sonowal said the present State government has come to power with the mandate of the people and his government will do everything to promote and protect the interests of the people of the state.
He also said since the government sincerely believes in the exclusive rights of the people of Assam over land, his government immediately after coming to power launched an uncompromising tirade to evict encroachments from satra lands.
Allaying fear that has been hovering around the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016, Sonowal said his government is duty bound to lend dignity to all people living across 33 districts of the state.
Chief Minister Sonowal also said the present Central and State governments are taking several schemes to expedite development and welfare of the people of the state.
Sonowal also said North East Military School, Bijni will go a long way in rekindling patriotic fervour of the young students who in turn will be able to render their services for the nation. Sonowal also hailed BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary for turning the once disturbed areas into an epicentre of peace, development and harmonious coexistence.
He also reiterated his commitment to work for safeguarding the constitutional rights of the people of Assam and appealed AASU and other intelligentsia to extend their cooperation to enable the government to ensure protection of the rights of indigenous people of Assam as per the tenets of Assam Accord.
Bodoland Territorial Council Chief Hagrama Mohilary while speaking on the occasion lauded the management for choosing an area within BTAD for setting up the school.
He also said under the present government all ethnic communities are living peacefully in the state and granting of ST status will not create any discord among the tribes of the state.
The North East Military School, Bijni an English medium fully residential school is third of its kind in the country after Nagpur and Nasik.
The school is affiliated to Bhonsala Military School, Nagpur and will be developed on PPP mode.
