Sonia Gandhi should articulate her views on Article 370: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Sonia Gandhi should articulate her views on Article 370: Shivraj Singh Chouhan

Panaji, Aug 18 (UNI) Former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday demanded that Congress Interim President Sonia Gandhi should clear her stand on abrogation of Article 370 in Kashmir.

Addressing a press conference at Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) State Headquarters in the city, he said he did not expect former Congress President Rahul Gandhi to speak something on the issue but Ms Gandhi should make her views clear on the issue.

'Congress is disintegrating. Rahul and Sonia Gandhi have not said anything. Sonia ji should articulate the opinion of the Congress party. We do not expect Rahul Gandhi to speak. Rahul has become Ranchoddas. It was his job as president to strengthen party after loss. But he opted out first.

It is a strange situation for the party. Rahul and Sonia ji, Ahmed ki topi Mohammad ke sir aur Mohammad ki topi Ahmed ke sir. Presidentship stays at home. Congress woes will not get over unless dynastyism family rule is over,' he said.

Mr Chouhan claimed due to wrong policies of the Congress government, issue of Article 370 could not be solved during the last 70 years while on the other hand BJP Government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi solved it withing 48 hours.

'When the Kashmir accession treat was signed, there was no demand for special status. Jammu and Kashmir had merged with India like other states. .. I am surprised at Nehru's (first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru) perspective sometimes. When Pakistani nomads attacked India and Indian forces bravely drove away Pakistani forces, a one-sided truce was announced. Matter was taken to United Nations. Because of the one sided truce, a large part of Kashmir, PoK (Pakistan Occupied Kashmir) has been created. If Nehru had waited for some time, all of Kashmir would have been with India. It was Nehru's historic failure. Not just this, the matter was taken to the UN. An invitation was given to [others] to interfere in India's internal issue. And after that Article 370 was slapped,' he said.

Claiming that Kashmir too will progress like Goa and terrorism and poverty would end, the senior BJP leader accused Congress of being confused on the issue and its leaders speaking in different languages.

'...But Congress is still confused. Different leaders are speaking different languages. While some are demanding reverting Article 370 while others speaking language of Pakistan. Article 370 does not have to do anything with any religion. .. I do not even know if it is a party or something else. Some leaders are openly supporting the decision to abrogate Article 370. Some are speaking Pakistan's language. P Chidambaram said that if Kashmir was a Hindu power article 370 would not have been abrogated. These words expose P Chidambaram's narrow mindset. The decision to abrogate Article 370 with nothing to do with Hindu and Muslim. But those who have got votes by appeasement, they cannot see anything else. Adhiranjan Choudhury says in Parliament that this is a matter for the UN how can India take the decision to abrogate Article 370,' he said.

The BJP leader claimed that Kashmir too will progress like Goa and terrorism and poverty would end.

'I believe that the manner in which Goa has progressed, Jammu and Kashmir too will develop. Terrorism will be eradicated along with poverty,' he said.
