Simple lifestyle key to healthy kidneys: Health Minister

New Delhi, Mar 14(UNI) On the World Kidney day, Union Health Minister JP Nadda on Thursday said
kidney disease can affect people at any stage of life but some simple lifestyle changes can ensure healthy kidneys.
''We are committed to provide accessible and affordable dialysis for everyone, through Pradhan Mantri
National Dialysis Programme. More than 37.38 lakh dialysis sessions have been held benefiting around
3.8 lakh patients,'' Mr Nadda tweeted.
Through a picture message, the Minister said under Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme,
more than 37.38 lakh dialysis sessions have taken place. Also, 3.8 lakh patients have been benefited under
the programme. Moreover, 4,080 machines have been setup at 693 centres.
The Health Ministry tweeted, ''Let’s pledge to protect our kidneys to lead a healthy life. Some simple lifestyle habits can ensure that you have healthy kidneys.''
Under the aegis of Swastha Bharat mission of the Modi government, Pradhan Mantri National Dialysis Programme, which was rolled out as a part of the National Health Mission, has helped kidney patients by providing them free, subsidized dialysis.
Under National Programme for Prevention and Control of Cancer, Diabetes, Cardiovascular Diseases and Stroke, preventive health check-ups are available free of cost at government health facilities, the Ministry said.
National Health Portal through its message on microblogging site said, ''World Kidney Day aims at raising global awareness about the importance of kidney health and screening of kidney diseases.''
