Tashkent, July 14 (UNI) Shavkat Mirziyoyev was sworn in as Uzbek president on Friday.
Uzbekistan is entering a new era, Mirziyoyev said after taking an oath at an inauguration ceremony held in the capital city of Tashkent. The coming period will be a time of profound, crucial changes and huge transformation in the political, socio-economic, cultural, and humanitarian spheres of the country, he added, stressing the need for new ideas, initiatives and achievements.
Uzbekistan held an early presidential election on July 9, with four candidates, including Mirziyoyev, who was nominated by the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan.
The Central Election Commission of the country confirmed the election results on Tuesday, with Mirziyoyev garnering 87.1 percent of the vote.
The early presidential election came after a referendum held in April over a new constitution. After approving the referendum results, Mirziyoyev announced on May 8 that the country would hold a snap presidential election.
Mirziyoyev previously won presidential elections in 2016 and 2021.
