Sharif bars party members from meeting army, intelligence agency personnel

Islamabad, Sep 25(UNI) Pakistan Muslim League (N) supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has issued strict instructions to his party members barring them from meeting personnel from the Pakistan army and intelligence without prior permission of the party leadership.
In an apparent reference to the ruling PTI's close links with the Pakistan army he wrote on Twitter “Recent events have once again proved that how some meetings remain hidden behind seven veils and how some others are publicized giving them a particular colour. This game should come to an end now”.
'Today I am issuing directives to my party that in future, no party member will hold meeting with any representative of the military and its related agencies individually, personally or at party level,”
Mr Sharif hinted that such meetings were not desirable as these could bring about interference of the armed forces into the nation's politics “to remind the armed forces of Pakistan about their oath to obey the Constitution”.
He also stressed on transparency saying that no such meeting would always be made public.
The directives were issued by the former Prime Minister on Thursday, a day after an army spokesman disclosed that PML (N) leader and former Sindh governor Mohammad Zubair had twice met Chief of the Army Staff Gen Qamar Javed Bajwa and discussed political and legal woes of Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz in the past few weeks.
Details of Zubair's meetings with Gen Bajwa came as a major embarrassment to PML (N) party as Nawaz Sharif addressed the All Party Conference (APC) of the opposition parties of Pakistan where he made a case for the army remaining clear of the country's politics.
He called Prime Minister Imran Khan as a 'not the elected but the selected candidate of the Pakistan Army.'
