SCCL set target of 10 lakh tonnes of coal production from Naini coal block in Odisha

Hyderabad, Jan 21 (UNI) Telangana state-owned Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) has set a target of 10 lakh tonnes of coal production from the ‘ Naini’ coal block in Odisha from the next financial year 2021-22.
SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N Sridhar said that all arrangements are being made for achieving the target from the Naini coal block which is to be started by Singareni.
The Naini coal block, which was allotted to Singareni earlier by the Central government, would be a boon for it and from the total of 340 million tonnes coal reserves of this block at a rate of 10 million tonnes per year, coal would be produced for the next 38 years.
This mine which is spread across 912 hectares, 783 hectares is spread across forest land, he said.
Presently, in the Open Cast (OC) mines, 6 to 7 cubic meters of Over burden (OB) has to be removed per ton of coal production but at Naini block open cast mine only 2.58 cubic meters of OB needs to be removed.
The coal which would be available at Naini block is also of high quality and G-10 grade coal.
In the environment public hearing held on Wednesday in the presence of Government officials at Angul District in Odisha, for the huge ‘Naini’ coal block , People extended their full support, Mr Sridhar said and expressed happiness on this and extended his thanks to Odisha Government officials, local people’s representatives and general public.
Since almost all the permissions with regard to Odisha Naini coal block are completed and the people’s opinion is also positive, he said the mine is speedily moving towards coal production.
Additional District Magistrate Santosh Kumar Pradhan headed the Naini coal block people’s opinion survey program at Angul District, where people’s opinion was sought under the supervision of Sub Collector Basudev Satpadhi and Pollution control board Regional officer (Angul) Anup Kumar Malik.
Nearly 500 locals participated in this from 6 villages near Naini Block and in which 35 people, who spoke on behalf of the villages said that they have no objection in coal digging by Singareni at Naini Block.
Singareni Advisor Naini Block C. H. Vijaya Rao, Consultant Dharanidharan Nath, Project officer Ravindra Chowdary and Singareni officials participated in the program.
Speaking on the occasion, the government officials said that the coal produced by Singareni will be helpful to meet the power needs of the country and SCCL will dig coal by being environment friendly and also take up some welfare activities in nearby villages as part of their corporate social responsibility.
Mr Vijaya Rao said a coal washery will also be arranged near the mine and as part of the social responsibility many welfare activities would be undertaken for the people of nearby villages.
Coal Washery, with a capacity of 80 lakh tonnes per year is also being arranged, he said Coal digging will be done through shovel dumper and surface minor system.
Nearly 1200 employees and another 1200 outsource employees would be working in the open cast mine.
Since the cost of coal production is very less here, this mine is expected to bring in huge revenue for SCCL, Mr Rao added.
Sarpanches, people’s representatives also participated in the program and extended their support for the Naini block.
This program was held successfully in partnership with Digital Kartography services.
Out of the total 6 villages near the mine only 14 houses of one village need to be relocated.
