New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) In a relief to former Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear his review plea challenging its earlier order to open a trial against him for not disclosing all criminal cases in filing nomination papers in 2014.
A three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra and also comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Aniruddha Bose, passed the order on Thursday on hearing Fadnavis' review petition in an open court.
"Upon filing a review petition, the Supreme Court has agreed to hear the same in open court" the Apex Court has said in its order.
Last year, a bench presided by then Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi, had directed for opening of the trial under the Representation of Peoples (RP) Act for non disclosure of two offences in an affidavit annexed to the nomination paper of the 2014 elections.
Fadnavis had moved the Apex Court challenging the former CJI Gogoi's order and sought reconsideration of the Supreme Court's order that had cleared decks for his prosecution.
