New Delhi, Jul 7(UNI) The Supreme Court on Tuesday directed the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report on news that more than 50 children of a shelter home in Kanpur have tested positive for Coronavirus.
A three-judge bench, led by Justice L Nageshwar Rao, was hearing a suo motu cognisance case pertaining to protection of children from the deadly virus.
In its last hearing, the Apex Court had taken note of 35 children testing positive for Covid-19 in a government-run shelter home in Royapurum, Chennai and sought a status report from the Tamil Nadu government regarding reasons for spread of the contagion and steps taken to control it.
The bench had also circulated a “Questionnaire” to the State Governments through respective Juvenile Justice Board Committees seeking requisite information.
The Apex Court when asked that are all the children cured?
Advocate Balaji Srinivasan, appearing for Tamil Nadu as Additional Advocate General (AAG), said that all are cured and back in shelter home.
The Apex Court then wanted to know, so no new cases?
At this, Advocate Srinivasan replied, Yes. It is on record.
The court also appointed advocate, Gaurav Aggarwal as the amicus curiae and listed the matter for further hearing to next Monday.
It was apprised that the Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Tripura governments are yet to file their respective detailed replies.
To this, the court, said, by Friday the Uttar Pradesh, Punjab, Uttarakhand and Tripura governments have to file the report regarding COVID19 cases among children in conflict with law and posted the matter for further hearing to next Monday.
