New Delhi, Aug 10 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Monday in its order rejected the noted lawyer, Prashant Bhushan's explanation and regret, in connection with his 11 year old alleged contempt case for calling out of former 16 CJIs, half of them 'corrupt,' and decided to hear the matter on merits.
"We will hear the matter on a later day, and date, starting from August 17," a three-judge bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra today said in its order.
The order was pronounced in the matter through video conferencing.
The Apex Court did not accept activist-lawyer, Prashant Bhushan's regret for his 2009 statement that half of 16 former CJIs (Chief Justices of India) were corrupt.
While refusing to accept the regret submitted by the lawyer, the Top Court said, it will examine whether prima facie the statement amounts to contempt of court, and fixed the matter for further hearing to August 17.
