New Delhi, Jun 4 (UNI) The Supreme court on Thursday dismissed a review petition filed by the CBI challenging the bail granted to P Chidambaram, former Finance Minister and accused in the INX media corruption case.
"We have perused the review petition and the connected papers carefully and are convinced that the order of which the review has been sought does not suffer from any error apparent warranting reconsideration”, said a bench of the Apex Court, headed by Justice R Banumathi.
The Supreme Court had on October 23 set aside a Delhi High Court order and granted bail to Chidambaram in the INX Media corruption case registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). The top court order came 61 days after the senior Congress leader’s arrest.
The Delhi High Court had, on September 30, denied bail to the Congress leader on the ground that he can influence witnesses.
Later, the Apex Court had also granted Chidambaram in the money laundering case registered by the ED (Enforcement Directorate).
Challenging its earlier order, the CBI had moved the Apex Court seeking cancellation of the bail.
Chidambaram was being jailed for his alleged role in the INX media corruption case.
