SC order on women in army: Rahul slams Centre for arguing against women in command posts, salutes India's women for proving BJP Govt wrong

New Delhi, Feb 17 (UNI) Slamming the Narendra Modi government over its stand in the Supreme court that women officers in Army do not deserve command posts or permanent commission in Army, former Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday welcomed the Supreme Court order and saluted "India’s women for standing up and proving the BJP Govt wrong".
"The government disrespected every Indian woman, by arguing in the Supreme Court that women Army officers didn’t deserve command posts or permanent service because they were inferior to men. I congratulate India’s women for standing up & proving the BJP government wrong", Mr Gandhi tweeted hours after the apex court verdict came out.
Welcoming the Supreme court verdict, AICC general secretary Priyanka Vdra said that the apex court order is a befitting reply to the prejudice of BJP Government towards Women's power.
'The landmark judgment of the Supreme Court has given new wings to the flight of women of the country. Women are capable - in the army, in valor and in water, land, sky.
This is a befitting reply to the Modi government, which is prejudiced towards to women's power,'Priyanka said.
Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court, in a historical verdict, pronounced that all women officers shall be considered for permanent commission and will also be eligible for command posting on par with male officers.
A division bench of apex court, comprising, Justice DY Chandrachud and Ajay Rastogi directed Union government to implement its order in three months.
The apex court also criticised the Union government for denying equal opportunity t to women officers by raising the ground of social norms, physiological limitations and family obligation associated with women.
