New Delhi, May 24 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Friday refused to entertain former Kolkata Police Commissioner's petition seeking extension of his interim relief in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam case.
A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Justice Arun Mishra, refused to entertain Kumar's petition seeking interim relief in the Saradha chit fund scam case.
"We are not inclined to grant relief at this stage to the petitioner, Rajeev Kumar. Writ petition under 32 is not maintainable at this stage in this case," Justice Mishra of the top court said, while dictating the order in the case in court number 3.
It is to be noted that Kumar’s interim protection from arrest, in the Saradha chit fund scam case, by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) ended on Friday.
The controversial Indian Police Service (IPS) officer & former Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar is an accused in the Saradha chit fund scam case, and was being investigated by the CBI for destruction of evidences in the case.
The court asked Rajeev Kumar to, rather, approach the concerned court in the state of West Bengal for relief, if he wanted to seek it in the case.
On May 21, Tuesday, the top court Registry had declined to set up a special bench to hear his plea to extend time to file anticipatory bail in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam case.
The CBI, which is the probe agency in the Saradha chit fund scam case, had alleged that Kumar was not co-operating with it in the case.
