New Delhi, Oct 28 (UNI) The Supreme Court on Wednesday allowed the National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducted the entrance examination for undergraduate medical courses, to declare the results of NEET 2021 by staying an order of the Bombay High Court.
The High Court had passed the order on a petition by two aspirants, who claimed their OMR sheets and test booklets got mixed up during the September 12 examination. Over 16 lakh candidates appeared for the National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET).
It had directed the re-examination of the two candidates.
An apex court bench comprising justices L Nageswara Rao, D Maheshwari and BR Gavai overruled the High Court order, saying, "We have to balance the interests.
The issue raised by the two students can be examined, but the results of all the candidates cannot be withheld, the bench said, passing the order on an appeal filed by NTA.
The appeal said the entrance exam results were ready, but the agency was not being able to declare the outcome because of the High Court order.
