SAD to approach HC against Punjab govt's decision to ban Pol Khol rally

Chandigarh/Bathinda, Sep 14 (UNI) Former Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal here on Friday termed the decision to ban the proposed Pol Khol rally in Faridkot as the “broad daylight murder of democracy”.
Meanwhile, SAD has decided to approach the Punjab and Haryana High Court to seek review of the government’s order and to be allowed to hold the rally peacefully on Sept 16.
In a statement issued here, Parkash Singh Badal said, "it is a brazen and cowardly abdication of constitutional responsibility by the state government whose primary duty was to ensure that no one is allowed to sabotage and disrupt peaceful expression of democratic aspirations of the people and to ensure and safeguard normal democratic activity in the state. The government has virtually admitted today that the constitutional machinery in Punjab has broken down so much that it cannot even ensure a peaceful democratic rally by a mainstream political party.”
