Rs 70000 cr being spent for welfare programmes: AP Finance Minister

Kakinada, Nov 12 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Finance Minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu on Monday said under the poverty eradication programmes, all the poor in various communities without any caste barriers were being given support for economic development in the state.

Addressing a public meeting at Ananda Bharati Grounds here, arranged in connection with the distribution of assets to the beneficiaries of Kakinada division at the mega loan mela, he said that Rs 70,000 crore were being spent in the state budget for the welfare programmes in this financial year, covering SC, BC, Kapu, Minorities, Brahmin, Vysya and economically-backward in other communities.

He further said that there was nine per cent economic poverty in the state, whereas as per the survey of the Oxford University, it was 21 per cent, based on educational, medical and other aspects.
While formulating the poverty alleviation programmes in the state, he said both the percentages were taken into consideration.

He said large-scale loan Melas were planned in the state to support poor people in different trades. In this connection, he appealed to the beneficiaries to make use of the tools supplied for taking up economic developmental programmes and improve their livelihoods.
Kartikeya Misra, District Collector, said that a total of Rs 280 crore worth units were being distributed in one day at seven divisional headquarters in these loan melas, covering tools, vehicles and other equipment to the artisans.

He said the district stood first in extending loans to the SCs, BCs and Kapus in the state. With regard to the Adarana scheme, the Collector said that nearly 50000 beneficiaries would be given tools during this year.

He further said efforts have been made to cover more number of beneficiaries and the cooperation from the bankers was good. The Collector said this loan mela is first-of-its-kind and more beneficiaries would be covered in the second and third phases in the district, which would be held soon.
