Rohit's ton powers India to 314/9 against Bangladesh

Rohit's ton powers India to 314/9 against Bangladesh

Birmingham, Jul 2 (UNI) Brilliant innings by Rohit Sharma 104 off 92 and KL Rahul 77 off 92 powered India to a great total of 314/9 in 50 overs against Bangladesh in the World Cup match here at Edgbaston on Tuesday.
After captain Virat Kohli won the toss and opted to bat, openers Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul gave India a flying start. The duo of Rohit-Rahul dominated the bowlers and scored 69/0 after the end of 10 overs.
Rohit continued his aggressive batting after being dropped on 9 by Tamim Iqbal while KL Rahul too looked in fine touch at the other end.
Moving ahead, both openers brought up India’s first 100 runs after 17.2 overs and kept on thrashing Bangladesh bowlers.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma kept on dealing in fours and sixes and completed his 26th ODI hundred. He hit his fourth World Cup 2019 century equalling Kumar Sangakkara's record for the most hundreds in a single edition of the tournament.
Soon after completing his century, Rohit Sharma dismissed by Soumya Sarkar while trying to clear the cover boundary. He mis-timed the stroke and got caught by the cover fielder after scoring a brilliant 104 off 92 (7 fours, 5 sixes).
Both Rohit and Rahul stitched a superb partnership of 180 runs for the first wicket.

Continuing his dream run in the ongoing World Cup, Rohit Sharma also gone past David Warner's tally of 516 runs during his innings.
After Rohit's wicket, Virat Kohli came to bat and tried to build a partnership with KL Rahul. However, Rahul couldn't continue his great innings and edged the ball in the bowling of Rubel Hossain to fall for 77 off 92 leaving India to 195-2 after 32.4 overs.
Virat Kohli was joined by Rishabh Pant after the dismissal of Rahul. Playing his only second match of the World Cup, Pant played aggressively right from the start of his innings and hit some lusty stokes.
In the 34th over, India crossed 200-run mark and was set for a big total with Kohli and Pant on the crease. The duo of Kohli and Pant looked steady and were in complete control of the game. But, Mustafizur Rahman brought Bangladesh back into the game by picking two big wickets in the 39th over.
Virat Kohli couldn't continue his sublime form and fell for 26 and Hardik Pandya departed for 0 to Mustafizur.
Kohi and Pant had a parternship of 42 runs for the third wicket.
Later, MS Dhoni, who faced flak for his approach against England joined Rishabh Pant and rebuild the innings.
The young left-hander took the attack to the Bangladesh bowlers and played some lusty shots. Dhoni from the other end preferred to give more strike to Pant who was striking the ball well.
In the 45th over, Pant went for the big shot against Shakib Al Hasan and got out for 48 off 41 (6 fours, 1 six), missing his maiden ODI fifty by 2 runs.
After Pant's wicket, the responsibility was on Karthik and Dhoni to finish well for India but Karthik could score only 8 off 9.
In slog overs, Bangladesh kept on taking wickets at regular intervals and didn't allow India to score freely.
In the end, MS Dhoni played a crucial knock 35 off 33 before getting out in the last over of the innings and guided India to a total of 314-9 in 50 overs.
Mustafizur Rahman picked up yet another 5-wicket haul against India as they scored just 63 runs and lost 5 wickets in the last 10 overs while other bowlers Shakib Al Hasan 1/41, Rubel Hossain 1/48 and Soumya Sarkar 1/33 took one wicket each.
