New Delhi, Apr 15 (UNI) Union Minister of States for Youth Affairs and Sports Kiren Rijiju on Thursday met the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) troopers at forward posts in the Nelong valley in Uttarakhand and lauded the Force’s personnel for their dedicated services to the nation in harsh terrain and climatic conditions.
Boosting the morale of the jawans, he said that the ITBP jawans have been best known for their enthusiasm and great professional acumen and high level of physical fitness which has been exemplary.
Mr Rijiju will also be be visiting more Border Out Posts (BoPs) which are located at the height of over 12500 feet including the Naga BOPs and he will be interacting with the border men also known as ‘Himveers’ as they are deployed in snow conditions, they are often termed as snow braves.
The Minister will also be staying tonight at one the Border Out Post (BOPs) and also to attend the Sainik Sammelan there.
ITBP DG S S Deswal, Additional Director General M S Rawat, are accompanying the Union Minister during this tour.
The Union Minister will be the Guest of Honor at the inauguration ceremony of the Water Sports and Adventure Institute (WSAI) of ITBP at Tehri in Garhwal on Friday.
Uttarakhand Chief Minister Tirath Singh Rawat will be the Chief Guest at the occasion.
The WSAI is an exclusive arrangement by the ITBP in association with the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board (UTDB), Uttarakhand Government where the Force will be running the Institute for the next 20 years and will train Force personnel, personnel from the CAPFs and other sister organizations and also organize training for youth.
It’s an exclusive and first of its kind Institute in the country where training of Aero, Water and Land related sports and adventure sports will be given and training of Kayaking, Rowing, Canoeing, water skiing, Paragliding, Parasailing, Scuba Diving, Paddle Boating, Speed Boating, Kite Surfing, Jet Skiing etc will also be imparted. Water rescue and life saving courses will be conducted in the institute.
Raised in 1962, the ITBP is deployed primarily to guard the India-China borders mostly through the BOPs based at high mountain ranges.
