Remarks made by Modi do not befit PM’s office, hope he expresses regret: Chidambaram

New Delhi, Feb 9 (UNI) After raising an uproar in the Rajya Sabha in the pre-lunch session over the remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi against former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the Congress today allowed proceedings in the post-lunch session with a strong ‘protest note’ that the comments were ‘unbecoming’ of the dignity of the office he holds and expressed the hope that he would express regret over his words.
Mr Modi yesterday took on Dr Singh, who had described demonetisation as organised loot and legalised plunder, saying, ''only doctor sahib (Manmohan Singh) knows the skill of bathing with a raincoat on.''
Initiating General Discussion on the 2017-18 Budget, former finance minister P Chidambaram of the Congress, referring to the the Premier's jibe at the former Prime Minister said, ''We did not disrupt the speech of the Prime Minister even though he provoked us. This is because we have the highest respect for the post of the Prime Minister.''
