REC Limited signs MOU with IIT Kanpur to extend CSR fund support

Kanpur, Aug 5 (UNI) REC Ltd. (formerly Rural Electrification Corporation Limited), a Navratna Enterprise, has committed financial assistance under its CSR initiative to IIT Kanpur for the project 'Raising Young Innovators through the Conceptual Research Experience'.

The agreement was signed by Prof Jayant Singh, Dean of Resources and Alumni, IIT Kanpur and Mr Rajpal Singh, AGM, REC Limited.



The ceremony was presided by Prof Manindra Agarwal, Deputy Director, IIT Kanpur here on Monday.



As per the agreement, REC Limited will provide financial support, through its Corporate Social Initiative Responsibility(CSR) Initiative, to IIT Kanpur for enabling the culture of raising young innovators in government colleges who will serve as exemplary role models for other institutions. This project will be implemented by the Startup Incubation and Innovation Centre, IIT Kanpur and it will focus to promote the culture of innovation in the selected 20 government institutions across UP. Creating the research & innovation ecosystem with focus areas in renewable energy, biotechnology, and agriculture is one of the core objectives of this project.

The students will be selected after a Research Aptitude Test. The selected students and their faculty mentor will participate in the workshops like Innovation Bootcamp, Market Validation Program for Innovators and Trainers. A special emphasis will be given to Bundelkhand and Purvanchal region under this project. 5 prototypes and 20 paper presentations will be selected for providing financial assistance among a number of concept notes and ideas discovered in this project.



'This agreement reinforces our commitment to the larger cause of strengthening and developing the innovation ecosystem in the country, especially in tier 2/ 3 cities. Having purpose-driven innovators and entrepreneurs is the need of our country and cultivating young minds towards research and innovation, especially during their college years, will help us immensely' said Prof Manindra Agarwal talking about the agreement.



Commenting on the association during the agreement-signing ceremony the RECL official said, 'The students from resource-poor setting should also be given the opportunity to reimage and reshape the world and solve the problems for the real India through technology innovation. We are extremely happy to reinforce our commitment to them through this partnership with IIT Kanpur'.



Prof Amitabha Bandyopadhyay, Professor-in-charge, Innovation and Incubation, IITK and Vishal Sudesh, Sr Executive (CSR), REC Limited were also present during the agreement signing.
