New Delhi, Dec 14 (UNI) Acknowledging their contribution in agriculture and allied activities, DD Kisan, a Doordarshan TV channel for agriculture will be launching a mega reality show here from December 17 showcasing an initiative by the women farmers where they have mixed traditional agricultural practices with modern techniques.
The announcement was made by Chairman Prasar Bharti A Surya Prakash while launching the Doordarshan Mahila Kisan awards here on Friday.
While congratulating the DD Kisan team for conceptualising and bringing to fruition ‘Mahila Kisan Awards’, he said that this programme will showcase the impact women have had on Indian agriculture and will not only entertain but also educate people.
Mr Prakash said the women farmers from various states and union territories, who are nominated by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), would be participating in the programme highlighting their story of struggle and success they have achieved through determination and hard work.
The women farmers have not only uplifted their families economically but also helped the entire village by forming Self Help Groups and extending their experience and services to other peasants. At the reality show, the jury of scientists from agriculture/ social work would evaluate the achievements of women farmers and shortlist five of them to compete in the grand finale.
The selection of contestants for the show has been done by Indian Council of Agricultural Research and the format of the show will include two women farmers talking about their achievements in each episode. Judges will score these contestants based on their assessment. The five contestants who get the highest scores during the show will reach the finals, where one of them will be declared the winner.
Throughout the show, each participant will have an opportunity to learn from the experiences of other participants. The show is also expected to act as a source of inspiration for lakhs of women across the country watching the show.
Information and Broadcasting Secretary Amit Khare, who was also present on the occasion, said people can witness the struggle and success of women farmers through this programme, adding that both Doordarshan and All India Radio are playing a pivotal role in identifying the hidden talents and bringing them in front of the country.
Five women farmers would be selected at the end of the programme.
