Rajendra Pal Gautam flags off 'Mukti Caravan' against child labour, trafficking

New Delhi, Dec 12 (UNI) Social Welfare Minister Rajendra Pal Gautam on Thursday flagged off 'Mukti Caravan' against child labour and trafficking alongwith Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) and Kailash Satyarthi Children's Foundation to make Delhi child friendly.
It aims to eradicate the violation of Child Rights from the grass root level with a bottom-up approach.
Mr Gautam who flagged off the campaign stated,''It cannot be denied that violation of Child Rights and protection of children is a problem in Delhi. The 'Mukti Caravan' would play a major role in helping the Commission as well as concerned department to identify problem areas to make child friendly Delhi.''
''This issue is of utmost serious concern and the goal to make country child friendly is possible only with compassion, dedication, sensitivity and passion and with continued such efforts,'' he said.
''Children are among the most vulnerable groups in the country. Be it victim of sexual assault, kidnapping or murder the children below 12 years have a higher abuse rate as they are more vulnerable. A total of 89,423 crimes against children were reported in 2014. The number went up to 94,972 and 105,785 in 2015-16 respectively. It could be seen that, between 2014-16 the number of crimes recorded under the protection of children from sexual offenses (POCSO) went up from 8,904 to 35,980- a fourfold jump,'' Mr Gautam said.
DCPCR Chairperson Ramesh Negi regarding the future of the project said, ''The campaign is six months long and learning of the month long will be expanded at other districts of Delhi in another five months.''
