New Delhi, Nov 28 (UNI) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday alleged that the government's figures on Covid-19 deaths are false and the Centre must compensate each family, which lost someone to the Novel Coronavirus pandemic, with Rs four lakh.
"The stories of the families who lost their loved ones to Covid-19 are true, their pain and suffering are true. The government statistics are false. The government must release the real figures and give compensation to the families #4LakhDenaHoga," Gandhi tweeted.
Continuing his attack on government over Covid-19 related deaths, Rahul also tweeted a video about the victims' families from Gujarat. In the video, the families narrated their experience during the pandemic.
Rahul said, "During the Covid-19 pandemic, the truth of Gujarat's development model was exposed." He shared several news items and mocked the "Gujarat's development model".
"There is a lot of discussion about the Gujarat model. All the families that we spoke to have said that during the Covid-19 pandemic, they could neither find beds, nor oxygen or ventilators," the Congress leader added.
He alleged that around three lakh people have died due to Covid-19 in Gujarat alone, but the state government claimed that only 10,000 people have died due to the pandemic.
"It is the government's responsibility to protect our citizens, as the citizens pay tax to the government. If a person has lost someone due to Covid-19, the truth has to come out and these people should get adequate compensation," he said.
"In these difficult times, we want to stand by your side and we want to assure you that we are all with you and there is no need to worry.
"In India, there are lakhs of families who have lost their mother, father, brother and sister but remember one thing, Congress party will do whatever it takes to help these families get Rs four lakh compensation," he added.
