Samastipur, Nov 15 (UNI) President Ram Nath Kovind today expressed his deep concern over global warming, saying it was a 'warning bell' which demands collective efforts from all stake holders to face the challenge and agriculture sector should also respond it by adopting innovative approach to increase productivity in changing climate.
Mr Kovind, while addressing the first convocation of Dr Rajendra Prasad Central Agriculture University, Pusa, here said that global warming had reached at alarming level and its devastating
effects were visible in different parts of globe. Regions impacted by even marginal effect of global warming, had witnessed serious consequences in terms of huge losses of human lives in a very short
duration of time, he noted.
"In a small country of Africa where global warming effect was less than 0.5 per cent, a new bacteria got germinated which multiplied several times and claimed 8,000 to 10,000 lives in just four to five days", President said adding that it was really a "warning bell" as global warming had reached unusually alarming level. Time had come for all stake holders to make concerted and sustained efforts to meet the challenge, he stressed.
"India has taken initiative for formation of International Solar Alliance to tap more and more solar power, much needed in changing climate", Mr Kovind said adding that India and France had taken lead in this international venture for a noble cause. Secretariat of International Solar Alliance had been set up in New Delhi, he stated.
