Prescribe antiviral drugs, not antibiotics to treat swine flu, DAK to doctors

Srinagar, Nov 9 (UNI) Terming use of antibiotics to treat swine flu inappropriate, Doctors Association of Kashmir on Thursday said H1N1 is caused by a virus and can only be treated by an antivirus drug.

“Doctors in the valley prescribe antibiotics for swine flu even though it is caused by a virus against which antibiotics have no effect. Swine flu is a viral infection that is not helped by taking antibiotics. But clinicians continue to dole out unnecessary antibiotics for flu patients,” DAK president Nisar ul Hassan said.
