Preparations in full swing for Bengal Global Business Summit to be held on Feb 7 & 8

Kolkata, Jan 20 (UNI) Preparations for the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) 2019, scheduled for February 7 and 8 at the Biswa Bangla Convention Centre, New Town, are on in full swing.

Bengal Global Business Summit is the annual flagship event organized by state government to showcase the business readiness and investment potential of West Bengal in front of the global business community.

Bengal Global Business Summit will include plenary sessions with political dignitaries from India and abroad, top corporates , thought leaders, senior diplomats,, sectoral sessions to explore business opportunities in focus sectors, country sessions to explore areas of collaboration, partnership, exchange knowledge and best practises and focused B2B and G2B interaction.

The avenues of collaborations are spread over a multidimensional spectrum of sectors including Agri Business, IT & ITeS, MSME & Skills, Hospitality & Tourism, Logistics & Transport and Infrastructure etc.

This marquee business summit of the State Government has gradually become one of the most looked-forward-to events by the business community of the country.

International participation has also been gradually increasing, from Europe, North America and Asia. Memoranda of understanding (MoU) worth thousands of crore of rupees have been signed over the past couple years.

There has been a reshuffle of officials of the State Commerce and Industries Department to bring in greater efficiency. This is the department which organises the summit.

The BGBS is another of the pet events of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, and she was one of the primary brains behind its conception. Under her leadership, the industrial scenario in the state has improved.

She recently visited Germany and Italy to invite investors to the BGBS. As a result of her interactions, big groups of industrialists are coming to participate in this BGBS. Several industry captains are flying in from the Middle East too.

The image of Bengal as an investment destination has gradually been changing for the better, and Bengal Global Business Summit has been an important cog in the wheel of that journey.

Eighteen Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) countries have been invited to the fifth edition of the Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS). This is another sign that the summit is growing in stature worldwide. Several Asian and European countries are taking part every year.

The invitation to the LAC countries, which is a first for the BGBS, was announced by the State Finance and Commerce and Industries Minister, Dr Amit Mitra recently.
