Inagurating the “Water Festival -2016” here today,the chief minister said it is an important task to safeguard water resources scuh as river,lakes,tanks and ponds since,pure water is essential for a healthy human life and water also playes an important role in the socio-economic development and for even the very existant of life.He said the ground water level is depleting because of the over exploitation and it is highly essential to create awareness on water conservation among our children and then only the future generation will get pure drinking water. Mr.Rangasamy said that as Puducherry is very near to the sea,the intrusion of saline water is very high and to provide drinking water the government had errected water purifying centers at many places here.The construction of bed-dams helped enhancement of ground water level in between Thirukkanji and Chunnambaar,he said adding that the farmers should opt less water consuming crops in their fields and should not over exploit ground water.Please log in to get detailed story.Tags: #Pondy CM exhorts farmers to go for less water consuming crops
