Puducherry, Jul 12 (UNI) Blaming the people for the increase in number of Coronavirus cases in the union territory, Chief Minister V Narayanasmay on Sunday said that the recovery rate in the UT is 65 per cent and the death rate 1.4 per cent.

In a video clip sent to the media here, the chief minister said that people are not following guidelines and thus spreading the virus.

Yesterday 17 persons at Vaithikuppam were infected and inquiries revealed that it is due to a marriage in which over 200 people participated violating the norms of 50. There was no social distancing and hence, the spread, he said.

People are not adopting social distancing in markets and wedding functions, he said adding that the containment of the virus is now in the hands of the people.

Hereafter, only three houses (one affected and the others on either side of the affected areas) will be announced as containment zone and the entire street will not be sealed, he added.
