Police arrest 18 drug smugglers in Afghan

Kabul, Aug 29 (UNI) Afghan police have arrested 18 persons on the charge of involvement in drug smuggling and seized a huge quantity of illicit drugs in latest operations in capital Kabul and seven provinces, a statement of the Ministry of Interior Affairs said Tuesday.
In the operations on Monday, the police seized 81 kg crystal, 1,190 kg yame (a plant grown in Afghanistan's mountainous areas that can be made into drugs), and materials and objects used in manufacturing heroin, in Kabul and the provinces of Kandahar, Nimroz, Laghman, Ghor, Nangarhar, Sari Pul and Herat.
In addition, Afghan security forces on Monday destroyed a drug lab in the central province of Uruzgan and detained a person, the provincial information and culture department said in a statement, adding that the police also discovered a large amount of materials used in manufacturing heroin from the site raided.
