PM to visit Manipur today; security beefed up

Imphal, Jan 4 (UNI) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Manipur and Assam today.
Arrangements were made for a public meeting at Hapta Kangjeibung, Imphal East and all roads leading to the venue were blocked by police.
Security personnel were positioned in all strategic areas as Cor Com, the umbrella of the militant groups operating in Manipur, has announced total shut down during the visit of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister is expected to arrive shortly before noon.
The militant outfits have called for total shut down from 0100 hours last night. All business establishments, educational institutes were closed down in the wake of the shut down. Streets were deserted and all passenger services were suspended.
Prime Minister will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several projects and schemes. He will unveil the plaque to mark the inauguration of various projects including Integrated Check Post (ICP) at Moreh, the Dolaithabi Barrage project, FCI food storage godown at Sawombung, Eco Tourism Complex at Thangal Surung and various water supply schemes.
He will dedicate the 400kV double circuit Silchar-Imphal line.
He will also the lay the foundation stone of projects like Infrastructure Development of Dhanamanjuri University, Imphal, sports facilities etc. He will then address the gathering at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal East District.
