London, Sep 18(UNI) The Pakistan High Commission in London has received the arrest warrants for former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif sent by the Pakistan government.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had issued non-bailable arrest warrants for Mr Sharif while dismissing his application seeking exemption from personal appearance in the hearing of appeals against his conviction in
the Al-Azizia and Avenfield properties references.
Although the High Commission is yet to make a comment on this development, the Dawn quoted anonymous sources as confirming that the Mission had received the paperwork to serve the arrest warrants on Mr Sharif.
The assistant registrar of the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had on Thursday directed the Pakistan Foreign Secretary to ensure that Nawaz Sharif is produced before the court on September 22.
Besides September 22, Mr Sharif would also have to appear on any other dates that might be fixed by the court, said the letter by Assistant Registrar.
The Pakistan Muslim League (PML) leader went to the UK in November 2019 after getting bail from the court on medical grounds and securing permission from the Pakistani government.
According to his doctors, he is suffering from complicated cardiac disease and an immune system disorder which causes platelet count to dip to dangerously low levels.
Sharif's legal team had submitted a medical report to the LHC last week in which he said that doctors have advised him against traveling due to the pandemic and the fact that he is a diabetic, suffers from high blood pressure and complications related to the kidney and heart.
His lawyers have said that his treatment was paused due to the COVID-19 outbreak in the UK would resume soon.
