New Delhi, Feb 27 (UNI) In a rare honour, Academy Awards, considered as the highest recognition given to Hollywood members, today felicitated Bollywood actor Om Puri. The versatile actor, who made a mark for himself in the West with movies like ‘East Is East’, ‘Gandhi’, ‘City of Joy’ and ‘Wolf’, was remembered at the Oscars 2017 in the “In Memoriam” montage. Om Puri was given a musical tribute by Grammy and Tony-nominated singer and songwriter Sara Bareilles. Bareilles delivered a special performance of the Joni Mitchell song “Both sides now,” while Friends actor Jennifer Aniston introduced the memoriam segment. Om Puri was included in the annual montage, along with Carrie Fisher, Prince, Gene Wilder, Michael Cimino, Patty Duke, Garry Marshall, Anton Yelchin, Mary Tyler Moore, Curtis Hanson and John Hurt. Back in the hometown, Bollywood celebrities like Yami Gautam, Resul Pookuty, Sonu Sood and Richa Chaddha expressed their happiness over the honour bestowed on Om Puri. ‘’Heartening to see Om Puri Ji paid homage along wid other stalwarts at d Oscars! He wised up us all & will continue to do so,’’Yami tweeted. Expressing his happiness, Oscars winner Resul Pookutty said, ’’Thank you @TheAcademy for recognizing the amazing contribution of actor #Om Puri in memoriam section.’’ ‘’Thanku @TheAcademy for remembering #OmPuri sir we miss u sir. #TheAcademyAwards,’’actor Sonu sod said. Actrees Richa Chadha also expressed her happiness over the honour for Om Puri. ‘’So thankful and touched at the memoriam for #OmPuri Saab at #Oscars2017,’’ she said. ‘Moonlight’ bagged the best film award, while “La La Land’ won 6 Academy Awards, including Best Original Score and Best Original Song “City of Stars”.
