Thane, Jun 2 (UNI) The Leaders of the Opposition in the state Assembly and Council, Devendra Fadnavis and Praveen Darekar respectively, have declared their support to ongoing agitation by the thousands of tribals in the four districts of Palghar, Thane, Raigad and Nashik.
The duo expressed their support to the tribals on Monday, when they went to the site where Vivek Pandit, Viddulata Pandit -- the founders of Shramajivi Sanghatana, president of the Sanghatana Rambhau Varana have resorted to hunger strike.
The tribals have been agitating for ration cards, essential food grains, and work under the Employment Guarantee Scheme.
The tribals have been staging demonstrations simultaneously at 21 different locations in the four districts.
Addressing the meeting, Mr Fadnavis blamed the MVA government for its alleged failure to solve the problems of the tribals.
He also said that he had also taken up the issue with Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari and got an assurance that he would organize a meeting with the Governor.
He suggested that such agitations should be avoided during the ongoing pandemic and only be staged to awaken the government as a last resort, he said.
Mr Fadnvais assured to take up the issues and demands at different levels, including the Chief Minister, and get them resolved.
