No dearth of funds for scarcity-hit villages in Palghar: Guardian Secretary

Palghar, May 19 (UNI) There was no dearth of funds for meeting the present scarcity situation in this predominantly tribal district, Principal Secretary of the Tribal Development Department and Guardian Secretary for Palghar district Manisha Verma has said.
She toured the district on Friday to take stock of measures being taken to meet the scarcity situation. In the review meeting with the senior officials, Ms Verma said tankers will be made available as per need in the villages.
District Collector Dr Prashant Narnavre conducted her trip through various villages in the district and briefed the Secretary of the work being carried out.
At the conclusion of the tour, she expressed total satisfaction in the measures undertaken by the district administration.
The district received an average of 96.87 per cent rainfall last year and the present storage of water in the eight projects is 22.07 per cent, it was stated.
It was stated at the meeting that a total of 196 villages and 583 hamlets in the district faced scarcity for which an expense of Rs 875.15 lakhs was anticipated. The measures to be undertaken during the period upto June 2019 is cleaning of the wells, provide water through tankers, tap water supply, repairs to the water sources,
arranging for new bore wells, temporary water supply schemes etc.
The district has sufficient fodder for cattle hence the camps for fodder have not been started it was stated.
A total of 51,174 farmers from 333 villages have been paid an amount of Rs 21.09 lakhs towards compensation for the scarcity grant which comes to 88.53 per cent of the sanctioned amount.
A total of 95,750 account holders in 543 villages from the district have been given a concession of Rs 21.49 lakhs in the land revenue tax.
Under the EGS scheme, a total of 58,043 persons were provided jobs in 922 works in 194 Grampanchayats between May 9 and May 15,2019.
