NIA unearths secret chamber in the house of an arrested al-Qaeda operative in Bengal

Murshidabad, Sep 20 (UNI) With the grilling of one of the six arrested al-Qaeda operatives from Murshidabad, Abu Sufian Mollah, who was almost on the run, National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday unearthed a cemented secret chamber underneath the ground at his residence in Raninagar.
The NIA uncovered some stored arsenals and traced a large sum of money, transacted among the six arrested terrorists.
The secret room underneath the ground was quite big to store tons of explosives and arsenal, the NIA officials believed.
It was Mollah, who was almost on the run during the NIA raid at his home on Friday night, but the agency swooped down on him while he almost jumped to the other side of the boundary wall.
The NIA believed that the secret chamber was built recently to store explosives and arsenal for fissiparous activity.
The agency also came to know that another arrested operative Najmus Shakib, a Domkol resident,
a second year Computer Science student, had connections with some people in Kashmir.
His phone had some numbers, which belonged to some persons living in Kashmir, for which the NIA was interrogating him.
Another al-Qaeda arrested operative Al Mamum Kamal confessed that he ran a Madrasah, which used to mould the students for jihadi and recruitment centre.
They used to rope in soft and obedient students, particularly from the poor and impoverished families.
The NIA also found that out of six arrested, four operatives' bank accounts recorded transactions of large sum of money in recent months.
A report from Kolkata said the city police as a precautionary measure raided some hideouts and conducted naka checking across the city and arrested six miscreants and seized arms and ammunition.
