NIA files chargesheet against two members of B’Deshi terror group

New Delhi, Jan 24 (UNI) National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday filed a chargesheet against two members of a Bangladeshi terror group, Ansar-al-Islam, who had entered the country illegally, in a Special Court at Aizwal in Mizoram.

According to NIA, they were caught by Silsuri villagers when the duo could not produce any valid documents and gave unsatisfactory reply to the queries about their antecedents and purpose of presence in the area.

Both the accused were then handed over the Border Security Force and later to the local police in Mamit district of Mizoram. NIA took over the case on September 19, 2019.

During investigation, the probe agency established their identity as Mahmud Hassan alias Shariful Islam a resident of Narsingdi district of Dhaka in Bangladesh and Mohamad Sa’ad Hussain alias Mohamad Sayad Hussain of Village Doharpar in District Magura in Bangladesh and chargesheeted under section 120B, 419, 465, 468, and 471 of IPC, Sec 14 of Foreigners Act & Sec 18 UA (P) Act.

The probe agency revealed that both the accused were members of Ansar-al-Islam, a banned terrorist organization in Bangladesh and both of them crossed the international border of India and Bangladesh illegally in the State of Tripura in November, 2018 and they concealed their location and identity based on fake Aadhaar cards which were provided to them by their handlers in Bangladesh.

“Accused Mahmud Hassan had travelled from Agartala to Bangalore in pursuance to conspiracy of terrorist acts in India and stayed in Bangalore for eight to nine months from November, 2018 to July, 2019”, NIA officials said.

During his stay in Bangalore, he conducted reccee of some public places in Bangalore, the officials added.

Investigation has also revealed that on instructions of his handler, the accused financially assisted another arrested Ansarullah Bangla Team (ATB), another proscribed organization in Bangladesh, member lodged in Kolkata jail.

“Both the accused later criminally conspired, as per directions of their handlers in Bangladesh and tried to procure weapons from various places in the State of Tripura and Mizoram in pursuance of the conspiracy of committing terrorist acts in India”, NIA said in statement.

During investigation, large amount of incriminating documents were recovered from their seized digital devices, the probe agency said, adding that further investigation in this case is continued.
