COVID-19: Brazil's death toll nearing 145,000

Brasilia, Oct 2 (UNI) Brazil reported 728 deaths from the Coronavirus pandemic in the past 24 hours, bringing the country's death toll to 144,680, the health ministry said on Friday.
Meanwhile, about 36,157 new cases were reported, taking the total caseload to 4,847,092, said the ministry.
The state of Sao Paulo, the most populous state in the country, is the most affected, with 991,725 infections and 35,804 deaths.
Brazil is the second hardest-hit country by the pandemic in terms of COVID-19 deaths, and the third in terms of infections.
