IAEA begins inspecting counterterrorism measures at world's largest NPP in Japan - Reports

Tokyo, Mar 25 (UNI) The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) on Monday started inspections of counterterrorism measures at the world's largest nuclear power plant — Japan's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPP — at the request of the plant's operator in a step to reopen the facility, Japanese media reported.
In 2021, Japan's Nuclear Regulation Authority banned the transfer of nuclear materials to the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa plant in Niigata Prefecture after a series of violations related to the facility's counterterrorism measures. The ban was lifted in late December 2023.
"The purpose of the expert mission is to assess the enhancement of physical protection measures of the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station (to protect nuclear materials and facilities) and to provide further advice as necessary to the facility operator," an IAEA representative was quoted as saying at a meeting with the operator by Japanese news agency Kyodo.
