Mumbai, Mar 14 (UNI) Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde announced that the government will establish a combined transport service for Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation, Bhiwandi-Nizampur, Ulhasnagar, Ambernath and Kulgaon-Badlapur in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).
Due to this decision, citizens of the area will have another viable public transport option apart from the railway, said Shinde on Wednesday.
This decision was taken in keeping with citizens constant demand that bus services should be started in these areas through the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation Transport Initiatives.
The area has a combined transport service area of ​​225 square kilometres and a population of 33,43,000 as per the 2011 census, he informed.
In the future, due to integrated transport service, easy and convenient transport services will be available to the passengers at reasonable rates, thus reducing the problem of traffic congestion.
With the government's focus being on pollution control and environment protection, new EV buses will be included in this transport service, the Chief Minister said.
For this transport service, a transport building will be constructed for administrative office of integrated
transport undertaking at Shahad in the Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation area, he added.
