Congress leader slams BJP in Mumbai

Congress leader slams BJP in Mumbai

Mumbai, Mar 17 (UNI) Lashing out at the ruling BJP, senior Congress leader and MP Rahul Gandhi said on Sunday that the current battle is not only between the BJP and the Congress, but between two ideologies.
Launching INDIA bloc's election campaign from Shivaji Park, Dadar in central Mumbai, he said, "One thinks that the country should run from one centre, where one person has all the knowledge. On the contrary, we think that decentralisation of power should be done, and people's voices should be heard."
He further said that if a person has an IIT (Indian Institute of Technology) degree, it does not mean that he has more knowledge than a farmer, but BJP does not work like that.
"Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh think that only one person has
knowledge... farmers, labourers and unemployed youth have no knowledge," he said.
Mentioning BJP MP Ananth Kumar Hegde's recent comment that his party would need a two-thirds majority in both houses of parliament to revise the Constitution and remove the unnecessary parts added by the Congress, the former Congress president said, "After the uproar, BJP, in an effort to quell controversy over Hegde's comments, called it his personal opinion and sought an explanation from him."
After that he was addressing a meeting in Mumbai, from where the Quit India Movement started in 1942 at August Kranti Maidan during India's struggle for independence, he said.
He further said, "BJP makes a lot of promises, but it does not have the courage to change the constitution."
The truth and the people of the country are with him, Gandhi added.
