Maha: Marathwada registers 53 fresh COVID-19 cases, one death

Aurangabad,Dec 31 (UNI) The Marathwada region of Maharashtra recorded 53 fresh COVID-19 cases and one related death during the past 24 hours, health authorities informed on Friday.
The district headquarters report stated that of eight districts in the region, Beed district recorded 2 cases and single death followed by Aurangabad and Osmanabad with 16 cases each, Latur had 8 cases, Parbhani had 7 cases and Jalna had 4 cases.
While, Nanded and Hingoli districts did not registered any new COVID cases on Thursday, they added.
Meanwhile, during the past 24 hours, 5,368 fresh cases of COVID-19 were recorded across the state, taking the total number of infections to 66,70,654.
The state also registered 22 more deaths, taking the death toll to 1,41,518.
Meanwhile,1,193 patients recovered in the state, pushing the total number of recoveries to 65,07,330. The recovery rate currently stands at 97.55 per cent while the fatality rate is 2.12 per cent in the state.
At present, there are 18,217 active cases across Maharashtra undergoing treatment at different COVID-19 centres and hospitals, the health authorities said.
Meanwhile, 198 fresh cases of the new vairant Omicron were reported in the state on Thursday.
With this tally of Omicron cases climbed up to 450 in Maharashtra, while 135 patients have been cured so far, they added.
