Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Apr 3 (UNI) Seven members of a family died of asphyxiation after a major fire broke out in Cantonment area of the city early on Wednesday.
The deceased have been identified as Hamida Begam Abdul Aziz (50), Shaikh Sohel Abdul Aziz (35), Reshma Shaikh Sohel Shaikh (22), Wasim Shaikh Abdul Aziz (30), Tanvir Wasim Shaikh (23), Azim Wasim Shaikh (3) and Pari Wasim Shaikh (2).
There were total 16 people staying in the building. Of them, all the deceased were staying on the second floor of the building, while seven others were staying on the first floor and two on the third floor.
After the post-mortem, the bodies were buried in a mournful atmosphere in Cantonment cemetery in the evening.
Guardian Minister Sandipan Bhumre, Leader of Opposition Ambadas Danve, MLA Sanjay Sirsat, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Chandrakant Khaire, state cabinet minister Atul Save, Afsar Khan, leader of the Vanchit Agadhi, visited the spot.
MLAs, MPs, political leaders also visited the spot of the incident, visited the Government Hospital and took information about the incident. They demanded that action be taken against culprits after a thorough investigation of the incident.
Opposition leader Ambadas Danve blamed administration for mismanagement and held it responsible for unfortunate incident of fire.
He demanded for a thorough investigation into the incident.
Firefighters were unable to locate the scene quickly, he said and added that late arrival resulted in loss of life.
He also paid tributes to the deceased of the incident.
While, MP Jaleel said that an unfortunate incident has occurred and demanded that Police commissioner and Municipal commissioner should conduct a thorough investigation of this incident.
