Schools in Nashik to remain closed till Jan 4, next year: Minister

Nashik, Nov 22 (UNI) Taking into consideration the possibility of increase in new Covid-19 cases in the district and the opposition of parents, the decision to re-open the schools in the district has been postponed till January 4, 2021, said Maharashtra Consumer Protection and District Guardian Minister Chhagan Bhujbal on Sunday.
Presiding over a review meeting on re-opening of the schools in the district in view of ongoing corona pandemic, he said, "As the Guardian Minister, I have had lot of discussions with the district's representatives, chief officers, students' unions, parents' associations and newspaper editors. From this discussion, it was seen that it would be appropriate to defer the re-opening of the schools, considering the possibility of risk. The chief Health officer of the district also said that since December and January are the months when children are at high risk of various diseases, it is necessary to assess the availability of paediatricians, capacity of paediatric hospitals vis-a-vis the Covid-19 cases, potential manpower and medical equipment. To date, we have enhanced our healthcare capacity based on the symptoms and properties of corona infection for general patients. I think we should re-start the schools only after testing our abilities according to the nature and possibility of the coming wave."
"Around the world, the corona cases are once again on the rise. In Nashik district also, the number of infected patients has started increasing from November 19. ....The corona tsunami is expected to hit again in December, so the decision to re-start schools will be taken at the end of the Christmas holidays by the end of December. Therefore, the decision to keep the schools close will remain valid till January 4," he added.
