Panaji, Jan 25 (UNI) A five day winter session of Goa Assembly began here on Monday.
Governor B S Koshyari addressed the MLAs on the first day of the session.
However, opposition leaders protested in the House wearing black ribbons after the Governor's speech.
The House paid tributes to distinguished luminaries who passed away in 2020.
Speaker Rajesh Patnekar made obituaries references of the demise of former Goa Assembly Speaker Anant Vishnu Shet, former Deputy Speaker of the first legislature Simon D'Souza, former Legislator of third Legislative Assembly of Goa, Daman and Diu from Panaji constituency, former President Pranab Mukherjee, former Goa Governor Mridula Sinha, former Uttar Pradesh Governor Motilal Vora, former Union Ministers Jaswant Singh, Ram Vilas Paswan, Raghuvans Prasad Singh, Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi.
The obituary references were made on the demise of Kesavananda Bharati, revered seer and Shyam Gaonkar, noted priest of Dev Bodgeshwar temple and social worker, Mohandas Surlakar, noted educationist, Audumbar Shinkre and Gurunath Kelekar, veteran freedom fighters, Aisha de Sequeira, noted business icon, former Vice Admiral Melville Raymond Schunker, former Vice Admiral of Naval staff and former Director General of the Indian Coast Guard, Dr Ms. V. Shanta, renowned oncologist, Pandit Jasraj, S P Balasubrahmanyam, Pandit TN Krishnan, Pandit Dinkar Panshikar and Pandit Rahat Indori Ustad Ghulam Mustafa Khan, veteran music legends, Sean Connery, Soumitra Chatterjee, Ravi Patwardhan and Ashalata Wabgaonkar, veteran film legends.
The obituary references were also made on the demise of Bhanu Athaiya and Satya Paul, renowned fashion, costume designers, Dadu Mandrekar, Datta Naik, Dr Tanaji Halarnkar and Madhav Govind Vaidya, renowned litterateurs and social reformers, Diego Maradona, football legend, Peter Vaz, Goa’s football stalwart and founder of Sporting Clube de Goa.
