Srinagar, Nov 29 (UNI) Traffic on the national highway, connecting Ladakh region with Kashmir, has been suspended following fresh snowfall since Tuesday night.
However, the Srinagar-Jammu national highway and historic Mughal road are through for traffic, a traffic police official told UNI on Wednesday morning.
He said there was fresh snowfall at Zojila and Meenmarg on the 434-km-long Srinagar-Leh national highway. 'We have suspended traffic as a precautionary measure to avoid any accident as the road had become slippery,' he said.
Efforts are being made by the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), responsible for the maintenance of the highway, to put it through, he said, adding that traffic will be allowed only after receiving green signal from the officials posted at different places on the highway.
However, he said, since only one-way traffic is allowed on the highway, today vehicles will ply from Kashmir to Ladakh and no vehicle will be allowed from opposite directions.
Meanwhile, he said, light vehicles will ply from both sides on the 300-km-long Srinagar-Jammu national highway, linking Kashmir with the rest of the country. But, he said, heavy vehicles will ply from Srinagar to Jammu today and no heavy vehicle will be allowed from opposite direction.
Similarly, the 86-km-long Mughal road, connecting Shopian in south Kashmir with Rajouri and Poonch, was also through from both sides.
