Pak violates truce agreement on IB, fires 82 mm mortars

Jammu, Sept 21 (UNI) Pakistan yet again violated the ceasefire agreement by firing heavily on forward BSF posts and villages in Arnia sector along international border here. Earlier this morning two civilians got injured while around 100 border dwellers were shifted to the safe locations. "Pakistani Rangers at about 1830 hours today suddenly started unprovoked heavy firing and shelling by 82 mm Mortars at number of places,’’ BSF spokesman here said. He said they targeted villages and BSF posts in Arnia Sector of Jammu, adding, ‘’exchange of firing is still on while BSF is giving befitting reply to the enemy.’’ Meanwhile, panic gripped the border villagers in view of firing. The border residents for the last three years are celebrating the festivals of ‘karwachauth’ and ‘Diwali’ in camps due to heavy firing by the Pakistan. At least two civilians got injured this morning while around 100 shifted to safer locations in view of heavy shelling by the Pakistan on international border in Arnia sector. "A man and his wife sustained splinter injuries in an overnight firing in Jeora Farm of Arnia,’’ police sources here today said. They further added that nearly 100 people have been shifted from Jeora Farm in Suchetgarh area of RS Pura to safer locations identified by the district administration, adding, ‘’the nomads living in the forward areas have been shifted to the government identified locations.’’ "There are reports that BSF effectively responded to the firing while Pakistan has suffered a huge damage in retaliatory firing,’’ sources added and said that the exchange of fire stopped early morning. On September 16, three civilians got injured as Pakistani Rangers violated the truce and targeted border outposts of BSF and villages in Arnia sector. Three civilians including a 12-year-old boy sustained injures as Pakistan bombed mortar shells and small arms in the village areas. A BSF jawan attained martyrdom on September 15 as Pakistan fired unprovoked on international border in Arnia sector of Jammu. On September 13 two BSF jawans and three civilians got injured in Pargwal sector of Jammu and in Saujiyan sector of Poonch in Pak firing. On September 4, an infiltrator was killed as forced infiltration bid from across the border was foiled by BSF troops on international border in Arnia Sector. On September 3, Pakistan violated truce agreement and fired unprovoked in Krishna Ghati sector along the Line of Control. On August 30 Pakistan violated ceasefire agreement and fired unprovoked in Nowshera sector. On September 1 a BSF jawan also attained martyrdom in sniper shot fired from across the border. Meanwhile, on August 28 five civilians got injured as Pakistan resorted to unprovoked firing and targeted forward Army posts and villages in Rajouri. According to Army figures, till August 1, there were 285 such violations by the Pakistan Army, while in 2016, the number was significantly less at 228 for the entire year. Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh during his recent visit to Jammu said that since 2014, Pakistan every year violates ceasefire agreement for more than 400 times. UNI VBH PY SHK 2058
