ICC Rankings: Ashwin reclaims top spot from teammate Jasprit Bumrah

ICC Rankings: Ashwin reclaims top spot from teammate Jasprit Bumrah

Dubai, Mar 13 (UNI) Ravichandran Ashwin's exceptional performance in his 100th Test match, where he secured a nine-wicket haul, has propelled him back to the top spot on the latest ICC Test Bowling Rankings.
His remarkable display in the Dharamsala Test against England showcased his prowess as he claimed four wickets in the first innings and added another 36th five-wicket haul in the second innings.
This outstanding contribution played a significant role in India's convincing victory in the fifth and final Test of the series. With this achievement, Ashwin has reclaimed the top position from his teammate Jasprit Bumrah in the ICC Test Bowling Rankings.
Bumrah, on the other hand, now shares the second position with Australian seamer Josh Hazlewood, who also performed well in a recent match against New Zealand.
Meanwhile, Kuldeep Yadav, another Indian bowler, has significantly improved his ranking, jumping 15 places to 16th overall, thanks to his outstanding performance and being awarded the Player of the Match against England.
Additionally, New Zealand's Matt Henry has also climbed the rankings, moving up six spots to reach a career-best position of 12th overall.
Their Indian batsmen also performed well and have been rewarded for their efforts. Skipper Rohit Sharma scored 103 runs, Shubman Gill scored 110 runs, and young opener Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 57 runs.
As a result of their performances, Rohit rose five places to sixth in the rankings and is just 108 rating points behind the top-ranked Test batsman, Kane Williamson.
Additionally, Jaiswal has moved up two places to eighth, and Gill has climbed 11 spots to reach equal 20th in the rankings. These are career-best ratings for both Jaiswal and Gill, reflecting their excellent performances in the series against Ben Stokes' side.
On the flipside, there are some significant shifts in the ICC Test player rankings after recent matches.
Steve Smith, the veteran Australian batsman, has dropped to fifth place in the rankings after facing a couple of failures in the second Test against New Zealand.
Babar Azam, the right-handed batsman from Pakistan, has moved up two places in the rankings.
Daryl Mitchell, a batsman from New Zealand, has also climbed one spot in the rankings.
Joe Root from England retains his second position in the rankings.
Alex Carey, an Australian cricketer, has made significant progress by moving up 12 places to 38th in the rankings for Test batsmen.
Mitch Marsh, another Australian player, has also improved his ranking by climbing eight spots to 55th.
Ireland's young cricketer Harry Tector made significant strides in the latest One Day International (ODI) rankings for batsmen. His outstanding performance, notably scoring 138 runs in the opening game of the series against Afghanistan in Sharjah, has propelled him up the rankings.
Tector's impressive display has earned him a career-high rating and the fourth position on the rankings, interrupting the dominance usually held by players from Pakistan and India.
In the process, Tector surpassed Rohit, who was previously ranked fifth, and Mitchell Santner, who was ranked sixth.
As a result, Tector, a 24-year-old Ireland cricket star, is now just one rating point away from reaching the third position held by the Indian cricket star, Virat Kohli.
Furthermore, Tector is gradually narrowing the gap between himself and Babar Azam, who holds the first position, as well as Shubman Gill, who occupies the second position in the premier rankings.
Additionally, Afghanistan's Ibrahim Zadran has climbed three places to jointly hold the 14th position, while Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who was named Player of the Series, has risen two spots to secure the 22nd position.
Fazalhaq Farooqi, another teammate, has significantly improved his ranking by moving up 10 spots to claim the 41st position in the updated ODI rankings for bowlers.
