New Delhi, April 27 (UNI) In a thrilling encounter at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi Capitals secured their second consecutive victory by defeating Mumbai Indians by 10 runs in a high-scoring contest.
Delhi Capitals, after being asked to bat first, delivered a blockbuster batting performance led by Jake Fraser-McGurk's explosive innings of 84 runs off just 27 balls.
Fraser-McGurk set the tone with fearless strokeplay, well-supported by contributions from Shai Hope (41 off 17), Rishabh Pant (29 off 19), and Tristan Stubbs (48 not out off 25). Their aggressive batting propelled Delhi Capitals to a daunting total of 257/4.
Mumbai Indians began their chase with a strong intent but faced early setbacks as Delhi Capitals struck crucial blows, dismissing key batsmen within the Powerplay overs. Despite valiant efforts from Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, and Tilak Varma, Mumbai Indians fell short of the target.
Rasikh Salam emerged as the hero for Delhi Capitals with a crucial spell, claiming three wickets to dent Mumbai Indians' chase. Mukesh Kumar's composed final over proved decisive as he successfully defended 25 runs to secure the victory for Delhi Capitals.
In the end, Mumbai Indians finished at 247/8, falling short by 10 runs in a closely contested encounter.
Earlier, Delhi Capitals got off to a blistering start with Fraser-McGurk's rampage in the Powerplay overs, equalling the record for the fastest IPL fifty of the season. Despite losing wickets at regular intervals, Delhi Capitals maintained the momentum, courtesy of impactful contributions from their middle-order batsmen.
With this win, Delhi Capitals continue their winning momentum in the tournament, while Mumbai Indians face a setback in their campaign.
