Pondy CM urges centre to enhance grant every year

Puducherry, Nov 15(UNI) Puducherry Chief Minister N Rangasamy on Monday urged the centre to increase the grant provided by it to the UT by ten percent at least every year.
Taking part in the virtual conference of finance ministers chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman, the chief minister said that the Central grant provided to the UT Government every year has fallen in real terms.
The chief minister urged the centre to provide financial assistance to the tune of Rs 225 crore to acquire land from Tamil Nadu for the expansion of Puducherry airport and also to set-up the Water Aerodrome to promote Seaplane operations here. He said that the UT of Puducherry should not be treated on par with UT of Delhi in respect of financial resources. Being the National Capital Territory, some of the crucial sectors in Delhi are administered by the GoI. Therefore, the funding pattern for CSS insisted upon the UT with a Legislature should not be applicable to the UT of Puducherry. The approximate state share to be provided for Centrally Sponsored Schemes is around Rs 150 crore, which may vary depending on the release of funds from the Government of India. This constrains the capacity of UT to implement the Centrally Sponsored Schemes. Hence, the Central share for the Centrally Sponsored Schemes may please be granted at the level of 90 percent as applicable to the other UTs. VIII. Revision in Central.
