Karnataka HC stays Women's Commission notice to Kumaraswamy

Bengaluru, April 19 (UNI) The Karnataka High Court on Friday stayed the notice issued by the Karnataka State Women's Commission to former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy. The notice was related to a comment made by Kumaraswamy suggesting that women were 'losing their way' due to election promises made by the Congress party.
Justice M Nagaprasanna, presiding over the case, pointed out that the notice issued to Kumaraswamy lacked jurisdiction. The court noted that neither a show-cause notice nor a summon was issued to Kumaraswamy as specified under the Karnataka State Commission for Women Act. "A clarification is sought which is on the face of it without jurisdiction," Justice Nagaprasanna remarked.
Consequently, the Court has stayed the notice until the plea filed by Kumaraswamy challenging the Women's Commission's notice is disposed of. The Court has also issued an emergent notice to the Women's Commission and its Chairperson.
